Venerable Phramaha Somphong Khunakaro Asst. Prof. Dr.

Ven. Asst. Prof. Dr. Phramaha Somphong Khunakaro is a distinguished scholar born on May 27, 1973. He has dedicated his life to the study and teaching of Buddhism, philosophy, and education. Dr. Somphong completed his Ph.D. in Philosophy and M.A. in Philosophy from Madras University, Chennai, India. Additionally, he holds an MMM in Management from NIDA, Bangkok, and a B.Ed. in Administration of Education from Mahachulalongkornrajavidyalaya University (MCU), Bangkok, Thailand.
Ven. Asst. Prof. Dr. Phramaha Somphong Khunakaro specializes in Buddhist Ethics, Philosophy, and Peace Studies. He has made significant contributions to both undergraduate and graduate education. At the undergraduate level, he has taught courses such as Philosophy and various Buddhist studies at MCU. His graduate-level courses include Buddhist Studies and Peace Studies at the International Buddhist Studies College (IBSC), MCU. His responsibilities at IBSC also include serving as the Vice-Director since 2016 and as a faculty member since 2008.
Ven. Asst. Prof. Dr. Phramaha Somphong Khunakarohas presented numerous papers at international conferences on topics such as Buddhist perspectives on euthanasia, human identity in perceptual worlds, and the approach to peace and conflict resolution in Buddhism. He has also authored several research articles and books, including "Phenomenology of Perception: An Investigation from Edmund Husserl and Buddhism" and "Ancient Western Philosophy."
His research interests cover a wide range of subjects, from Buddhist philosophy and ethics to intercultural and social issues. Notable presentations include “Contemporary Ethics: Euthanasia in the View of Buddhist Society in Thailand,” “Human Identity in Perceptual World in Edmund Husserl’s Phenomenology and Buddhism,” and “The Approach to Peace and Conflict Solution in Buddhist Perspective.”
Ven. Asst. Prof. Dr. Phramaha Somphong Khunakaro’s extensive teaching experience, combined with his administrative roles and prolific academic output, make him a vital contributor to the academic community. His work bridges traditional Buddhist wisdom with contemporary ethical and philosophical inquiries, fostering a deeper understanding of Buddhism in modern contexts.
